Best Response - How do I become an Extension School instructor?

Teaching at Harvard Extension School

Typically our faculty members have earned doctoral degrees and have extensive teaching experience. The majority of our faculty currently teach at Harvard University or a local institution. Preference is given to Harvard University faculty.

We encourage you to become familiar with the types of courses we currently offer. To learn more about a specific course, read the course description, which you can find by using our course search or searching courses by subject.

Please note that all Extension School courses, except courses that are part of the Institute for English Language (IEL), are offered for either undergraduate or graduate credit. Our fall and spring semesters are 15 weeks long, and the intensive January session is 3 weeks long. See the academic calendar for dates.

Distance education courses are based on courses that already meet on campus. The decision is first made to offer the course on our campus, after which we consider offering it as a distance education course.

If you are interested in teaching a course at the Harvard Extension School, please e-mail Mark Lax, mark_lax@harvard.edu.
