Academic Programs: Degrees, Open-enrollment Courses, and Citations

Whether you come to the Harvard campus to advance professionally or pursue personal enrichment, you will find others like you – motivated students looking for an academic challenge.

Undergraduate and Graduate Programs

Our programs are designed to meet the needs of the adult student, balancing academic rigor with flexibility and value. Students can work toward their degrees part-time in the evening and online.

The Bachelor of Liberal Arts (ALB) offers 26 optional fields of study. We also offer an Associate in Arts.

For students who already posses an undergraduate degree and who wish to further their studies, the Master of Liberal Arts (ALM) is offered in 19 liberal arts fields and 7 professional fields.

The Health Careers Program also offers premedical courses, medical school application sponsorship, and a diploma.

See our list of programs to choose which one is right for you, and review its admission and degree requirements. You can also use the degree course search to identify current courses that fulfill each program's requirements.

Open-enrollment Courses

For students who wish to enroll in a course or two for personal or professional enrichment, we offer over 600 courses in 65 varied fields, including over 100 online courses. Most of our courses are open enrollment, which means that no transcripts, letters of recommendation, or essays are required. Simply complete our registration process.

Some courses have prerequisites, which are listed in course descriptions. In certain subjects, proof of English proficiency is required if English is not a student's primary language. In addition, some courses require placement tests. Courses with an enrollment limit fill on a first-come, first-served basis.

Citations

If you would like to focus your studies in an area independent of a degree program and in fewer courses, you can earn a citation in one of over 20 fields. See Citations for complete information.

English as a Second Language

Our Institute for English Language (IEL) Programs offer noncredit courses for nonnative speakers who wish to improve their communication skills in their careers, studies, and everyday life.
